Our Humble Beginnings
The story of Ganda Gold Coffee begins with a grandmother's love and dedication to her grandson. In the 1950s, our founder's grandmother Hajati Afuwa, a kind-hearted and visionary woman, had a grandson who lived with bipolar disorder. During his episodes, she would take him to their family farm in Hoima, Busunju, where they would tend to their coffee plants together.
The farm became a therapeutic haven for our founder's grandfather, providing him with a sense of purpose and calm during his episodes. His grandmother noticed the positive impact that working on the coffee farm had on his mental health and well-being.
In 1950, our founder's grandmother donated a small piece of land to establish a coffee farm, which would become the foundation of Ganda Gold Coffee. This selfless act was driven by her desire to create a safe and supportive environment for her grandson and others like him.
Over the years, our family has continued to tend to the coffee farm, passing down the knowledge and skills from generation to generation. Today, we're proud to carry on our grandmother's legacy, expanding our operations to support more farmers, women, and individuals with mental illnesses.
Ganda Gold Coffee is more than just a coffee company – we're a social enterprise dedicated to empowering women, supporting mental health awareness, and promoting environmental sustainability. We believe that everyone deserves access to economic opportunities, healthcare, and education, regardless of their background or circumstances.
